TIMOTHY C. BOWLIN, M.D.
I was born in Lafayette and moved to Hammond, LA at age 4 where I had a wonderful childhood. At the age of 10, I started a lawn mowing business with my best friend, which taught many valuable lessons at a young age. I was also very involved in my church and the Boy Scouts and eventually obtained the rank of Eagle Scout. After graduating from Hammond High School I moved to Baton Rouge to become an LSU Fighting Tiger.
I attended LSU Medical School in New Orleans and graduated in the top 5 in my class. While in school, I became very involved in the student Honor Board and eventually received the Ethics in Medicine award. During my time in NOLA, I married my beautiful and talented wife, Aza Downs.
After graduating from med school, I chose the University of Arkansas in Little Rock for my orthopaedic surgery residency. Our time in Little Rock was a great experience. We were fortunate enough to have twin boys during my residency. The training I received was incredible and in fact, my desire to become a hand surgeon started during my third year. My mentor, Dr. Randi Bindra, was such a dynamic teacher that his passion for hands inspired me to follow in his footsteps. The opportunity to help patients get back to work and their hobbies using their hands is unbelievably satisfying and gratifying. The complexity of hands, wrists, and elbows offers diverse problems that keep me busy helping people.
Upon completion of my residency, I finished my training in hand surgery at the Indiana Hand Center. There I was mentored by 8 amazing hand surgery experts and became proficient in all aspects of upper extremity surgery.
After my training was complete, my wife and I decided we wanted to be closer to our families and Baton Rouge seemed like a good fit. Working at BROC offered the opportunity to work amongst an amazing peer group of dedicated orthopaedic surgeons that strive for nothing but the best for their patients.
Outside of work, my twin teenage boys keep me quite busy with their multiple sports and hobbies. We enjoy hunting, fishing, hiking, canoeing, mountain biking, gardening, and spending time at our camp.
